Potatoes au Gratin


What a savory comfort dish! 


Ingredients:

4 large potatoes, peeled and sliced

1-1/2 cup heavy whipping cream

1/2 cup milk

2 Tbs flour

1/2 tbs minced garlic

1 medium onion finely diced

1 tsp salt for milk mixture

Freshly ground pepper and kosher salt, to taste

1 cup mild cheddar cheese

Instructions:

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
2. Peel and slice potatoes.
3. Whisk together cream, milk, flour, minced garlic, salt, and plenty of freshly ground black pepper.
4. Butter a 12" casserole dish.
5. Place 1/3 of the potatoes and diced onions in the bottom of the baking dish. 
6. Lightly sprinkle with kosher salt and lots of pepper.
7. Pour 1/3 of the cream mixture over the potatoes.
8. Repeat this two more times, ending with the cream mixture. 
9. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. 
10. Remove foil and bake for 20 minutes, or until potatoes are golden brown and bubbling. 
11. Add grated cheese to the top of the potatoes and bake for 3 to 5 more minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly.
